Sudar Oli is a Tamil newspaper published from Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was in the news when its office in Madampitiya Road at Grandpas, Colombo was attacked and a security guard killed.[1]

Sudar Oli was founded in Colombo on 10 September 2000 and 29 October 2001 respectively. Sudar Oli is the sister newspaper of the Jaffna based Uthayan.

Attack on Sudar Oli

Jathurshan Premachandran, One of the Sudar Oli staff-reporter was attacked in front of the Fort Railway station when he went there to cover a JVP public meeting. His camera, purse and other belongings were snatched from him.

Grenades were thrown at Sudar Oli branch office at Wellawatte. Two grenades were hurled at Sudar Oli head office at Grandpass road Colombo 14. One employee was killed on the spot and three others were injured.

Arrest of Sudar Oli Editor N. Vithyatharan

Sudar Oli Editor N. Vithyatharan was violently abducted from a funeral house in Mount Lavinia on 26 February 2009 in broad day light by a group of armed men in white van in front of several people although they tried their level best to prevent it.

But when the incident came to be known internationally and reaction intensified, the Government rushed to say that Vithyatharan was not abducted but arrested and detained by the Police for interrogation in connection with 20 February air attack on Colombo by LTTE.

He was released later on.
